As Head of Data Engineering, you will be part of the Senior Data Leadership team under the Chief Data Officer. You will be a leading role in defining our technology roadmap for a new cloud data platform as well as establishing the data engineering team, operating model and service catalogue that will support our data and analytics strategy. Data is part of a much broader investment in our digital backbone; we’re transforming the entire way we think about our application landscape adopting a microservice, domain driven architecture. We’ll integrate with these new microservices and our heritage architecture through streaming events, leveraging the latest in cloud technologies and AI to create new and novel data products as well as support traditional reporting requirements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for defining and establishing the data engineering team, operating model and organisational structure 
  • Be an inspiring leader, mentor and assist the development of the data engineering team 
  • Contribute to the roadmap and design of HL’s strategic data platform
  • Responsible for defining data engineering development and technology standards
  • Accountable for the delivery of data platform and data services to productionise Data Science models and architectural patterns for Software Engineering
  • Leading the development of streaming systems and manage large data sets
  • Responsible for ensuring that all data engineering conforms to data management and software engineering standards.
  • Responsible for establishing the data platform service catalogue, defining and operating within appropriate SLA’s

Requirements

Must have:

  • 5+ years’ experience as a Head of Data Engineering
  • Experience in leading teams (10-15 people)
  • Experience in designing, building and launching highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, transformation and loading of datasets
  • Experience delivering on/prem and cloud data platforms (AWS stack is strongly preferred)
  • Experience with large-scale streaming systems (Kafka, Kinesis, etc.)
  • Proficiency with Big Data systems (Spark, Hadoop, Pig, etc.)
  • Proficiency with SQL and NoSQL databases (Redshift, Athena, Snowflake, MongoDB, Neo4J, etc.)
  • Experience using Python, Java, or Scala for data processing
  • Agile methodologies and continuous delivery/continuous integration pipelines and technologies
  • Familiarity with DataOps methods and data quality improvement techniques
  • Experience in establishing and supporting ML pipelines in production
  • Excellent Director level stakeholder management and influencing skills
  • Very good command of Polish&English
